The climate of Kabul (Afghanistan)
Kabul is the capital of Afghanistan. With approximately 3 million inhabitants it is the largest city in the country. Kabul has a turbulent history in which the city was conquered and re-conquered several times and even got partly destroyed. In the war on terrorism the conquering of Kabul and defeating the Taliban is of strategic importance to the United States. Kabul has a cold steppe climate (type Bsk according to the Köppen climate classification) with warm summers in which hot days are not uncommon. Low humidity figures make the heat somewhat more bearable. Within Afghanistan Kabul is a reasonably cold destination with temperatures of 30-33 degrees Celsius on average. During the winter the climate is rather cold with temperatures just above freezing point. During December, January and February subzero night time temperatures are not uncommon. During this period snow is not uncommon either. Long lasting snow is uncommon though.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
