The climate of Salta (Argentina)
Salta is located in the north western part of Argentina in the Andes
at an altitude of 1,187 meters. Salta is the capital of the Salta
province. The city was founded in 1582 by Hernando de Lerma
commissioned by the King of Peru. Salta is known for its beautiful
colonial architecture and also has several beautiful neo colonial
buildings. The San Francisco church and the Salta Cathedral are among
the most beautiful buildings in Salta.
Salta is situated in the Lerma valley and has a moderate climate with
distinct summers and winters. The summer period is from November till
March. The highest annual rainfall occurs during this period. Because
of this humidity figures are high during this period. Temperatures in
the higher regions are lower and snowfall is not uncommon. Winters are
cold and dry and subzero temperatures are not uncommon during this
period.
