The climate of Charleroi (Belgium)
Charleroi or Tchålerwè is the largest city in Wallonia (the Walloon Region) in the province of Hainaut situated on the river Samber. Charleroi is an industrial city with many large companies and an airport with over 2 million passengers per year. The area around Charleroi is called “The Black Country”. Coal-mines used to be the largest source of income for the city. The closure of the coal-mines led to a great rise in unemployment causing high crime rates. The old coal-mines can be visited by the public. The moderate sea climate is influenced by the Ardennes. Because of the higher altitude of the Ardennes Plateau it is a little colder and wetter here. Summers can be pleasant. However, you should bear in mind that a shower may fall.
