The climate of Parakou (Benin)
Parakou is a large city in the eastern part of Benin in the Borgou department. Parakou is also the capital of this department. Parakou is situated on the most important highway of the country which connects Cotonou to the neighbouring country of Niger. It is also the final station of the railroad from Cotonou. In the vicinity of the city the Plein Air de Parakou museum can be found. This museum gives a good impression of Batanou customs and traditions. Parakou has a warm savannah climate with one distinct rainy period from April till October. The rest of the year hardly any rain falls. Temperatures are around 30 degrees Celsius all year round. Night time temperatures are 20 degrees Celsius on average. From November till March a Harmattan winds may occur. This type of wind transports dry and dusty air from the Sahara to this part of Africa. This type of wind offers some cooling during warm days.
