The climate of Cochabamba (Bolivia)
Cochabamba is the capital of the Cochabamba district in Bolivia situated in the Cochabamba valley in the middle of the Andes mountain range. Cochabamba is one of the most modern cities in Bolivia. This fertile valley has been lived in within living memory. In the 16th century Spanish colonists settled here; It was to be an agricultural production centre to provide food for the mining towns of the relatively nearby Altiplano region. The city has a university. Because of the many students that live here there are many trendy bars, internet cafés and restaurants. The city center is very modern. However, the suburbs of the city are very poor. The roads are bad and there hardly is any sewage. Cochabamba has a monsoon climate; type Am according to the Köppen climate classification. The monsoon climate is characterized by longer periods of heavy rainfall. However, there are periods of drought as well. Temperatures are 18 degrees Celsius on average all year round.
