The climate of Buenaventura (Colombia)
Buenaventura is an important port in Columbia located on the Pacific Ocean. When the Panama Canal was opened the city became much more important as a port. The city is not very big and mainly consists of villages and suburbs which have merged. Because of drugs and rivalry between gangs Buenaventura is not a very suitable tourist destination. Despite the fact Buenaventura is home to only 300,000 people many more people are murdered here than in New York City. The government even deploys special forces to keep the city safe. Buenaventura has a tropical rainforest climate. Precipitation figures are high all year round. Because the city is located on the windward side of the mountains Bogota is one of the wettest places on earth. Temperatures are high all year round. This in combination with high humidity figures may cause a muggy feel.
