The climate of Sosua (Dominican Republic)
Sosua is a seaside resort on the north coast of the Dominican Republic in the Puerto Plata province. Playa Sosúa is the largest and most important beach in Sosua. The many discos and cafes attract a lot of tourists. Several restaurants of a high standard can be found here as well. When you walk through the city you’ll come across a few remarkable buildings. During WWII about 1,000 Jews settled here. The leader of the Dominican Republic of that time invited the Jews to settle here. A large part of the Jews stayed here after WWII and built a synagogue and a Jewish museum. In Sosua’s vicinity many activities can be enjoyed. Swimming with dolphins is one of the most popular ones among them. Snorkeling and diving are very popular as well.
Sosua has a tropical rainforest climate. From May till October Sosua’s season is a little drier. During this period tropical storms and hurricanes may occur. During these months humidity figures may rise as well. Most tourists travel to Sosua during the winter months because the climate is most pleasant then. Temperatures are reasonably high but the presence of the ocean wind is responsible for a tempering effect. Heavy rainfall is not uncommon all year round.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
