The climate of Awasa (Ethiopia)
Awasa is a big town in the south of Ethiopia on lake Awasa. Awasa lies in the district of the same name of which it is also the capital. The town lies on the Cairo- Cape Town highway which runs right across Africa. The most important source of income of the town is the fishing-industry. Awasa airport is the local airport here. Due to its situation on lake Asawa tourists regularly come here. That is why there are several hotels and b&b's here. Awasa has a tropical monsoon climate with much precipitation throughout the year. However there are two rainy periods to be distinguished here. The short rainy period that lasts from the middle of March up to and including May and the long rainy period that lasts from the middle of June up to and including the middle of October. In the other months of the year it may rain here from time to time. The temperatures are agreeable here throughout the year and are somewhat lower during the rainy periods.
