The climate of Tahiti (French Polynesia)
Tahiti is the largest island of the windward islands in French
Polynesia. These windward islands are part of the Society islands. The
capital of French Polynesia is Papeete, located on Tahiti. Prior to
French colonization Tahiti was part of the Kingdom of Tahiti. The only
international airport of the country is situated on the island. The
island became famous during the end of the 19th century when the
painter Paul Gaugain lived here. He made many famous paintings such as
‘Tahitian women on the beach’. Nowadays Tahiti is a popular holiday
and winter sun destination. Especially the beautiful white beaches and
the azure blue sea attract a lot of tourists.
The largest part of
Tahiti has a tropical rainforest climate. However, the regions on the
windward side have a tropical rainforest climate. The difference in
climate is because of the difference in precipitation figures.
The daytime temperatures are just above 30 degrees Celsius all year round. There
is a risk of tropical storms and hurricanes from December till June.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
