The climate of Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni (French Guiana)
Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni lies in the north of French Guiana on the Marowijne river. On the other side of this river lies the village of Albani, which is in Suriname. Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni is the second town of the country after the capital of Cayenne. The town is also called little Paris, mainly because of the typical architectural styles you can find here. The cultivation of sugarcane for the rum distilled here is one of the most important sources of income of the town. For a number of villages more land-inward the Marowijne river is the only way to the civilized world.
Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni has a tropical rain forest climate, mainly characterized by the large amount of precipitation in this region. Together with the agreeable high temperature in the daytime as well as at night this causes sultry damp days and nights. Only in the months of September and October the average amount of precipitation is slightly less but is still to be mentioned considerable.
