The climate of Passau (Germany)
Passau is located in the southeastern part of Germany in the federal state of Bavaria. Passau is located on the spot where the Inn River and the Ilz River discharge into the Danube and is then called the Danube. This is why Passau is also known as the ‘Dreiflüssestadt’ (City of three rivers). Passau is located in the vicinity of the border with Austria and is a real student city. Almost 20% of its inhabitants attend the local university. Besides the confluence of three rivers another main attraction is the baroque St Stephens Cathedral. This cathedral has the second largest church organ in the world with more than 17,500 pipes and almost 250 registers. The Oberhaus (13th century) and Niederhaus (14th century) are also well worth visiting. Passau has a moderate maritime climate with pleasantly mild winters and relatively cool summers. Because of the influence of the warm Gulf Stream large differences in temperatures between the seasons are uncommon. Precipitation figures are fairly low. However, heavy thunderstorms may occur occasionally.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
