The climate of Elounda on the island of Crete (Greece)
Elounda is located on the north coast of Crete on the Elounda Bay. Off the coast the Spinalonga archipelago is situated. The island of Kalidonia is part of this archipelago. A fortress can be found on this island which was used as a leper colony till the second part of last century. Nowadays this fortress is an important tourist attraction for Crete. Elounda Bay is an excellent location for a refreshing dive. Elounda has a Mediterranean climate with mild and wet winters and warm and dry summers. Winters are not too cold which makes this place suitable as a winter sun destination. However, do not expect temperatures to be high enough to lie on the beach every day. Summers are pleasantly warm. An ever blowing sea breeze offers some cooling.
