The climate of Overijssel (the Netherlands)
Overijssel is a province in the eastern part of the Netherlands. Zwolle is the capital of the province of Overijssel. Other large cities located in this province are: Almelo, Deventer, Enschede, Hengelo, Kampen and Oldenzaal. Overijssel borders the provinces of Gelderland, Friesland, Flevoland and Drenthe. In the east the province borders the German federal states of Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia. Overijssel can be divided into three regions: The Kop van Overijssel, Salland and Twente. The province is very popular among the Dutch who spend their vacation in their own country. Many kilometers of bicycle tracks and footpaths can be enjoyed here. The annual Book Fair in Deventer is the largest in Europe and attracts more than 100,000 visitors every year. Overijssel has a moderate maritime climate with four distinct seasons. Winters may be very cold; longer periods with subzero temperatures (during the night) are not uncommon. During the summer daytime temperatures are just above 20 degrees Celsius on average. Precipitation is quite evenly spread out over the year. During the coldest days of winter precipitation falls in the form of sleet or snow.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
