The climate of Tromsø (Norway)
Tromsø is located in the most northern tip of Norway. The city is
situated between fjords, lakes and Mount Lynsalpene. The most
northerly situated university in the world can be found here. A very
modern cathedral can be found here as well. This cathedral, often
referred to as ‘the Arctic cathedral’, is meant to represent the shape
of an iceberg and is the most northerly situated cathedral in the
world. Tromsø has a cosy center with an exhilarating nightlife and
many cultural activities. Despite its northerly location Tromsø has a
relatively mild continental climate. During the coldest winters
temperatures of -18 degrees Celsius can be recorded, which is
exceptional for a city located this far north. The combination of mild
temperatures and a lot of precipitation in the form of snow make this
region ideal for wintry activities. Summers are warm and sunny with
temperatures even rising up to 28 degrees Celsius.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
