The climate of Colón (Panama)
Colón is an important port in the Republic of Panama situated on the Caribbean Sea and the northern entrance to the Panama Canal. The city itself offers little entertainment for tourists. As a white Caucasian you will even have to be on your guard during the evenings in the second largest city of Panama. The city is best known for the Colón Free Zone which is in the vicinity and is a free trading zone for sailors. Colón is also an important transshipment port for goods destined for the Caribbean and South-America. Colón has a tropical climate with constantly high temperatures and high humidity figures. The rainy season is from May till the second part of December. During this period there is a daily chance of heavy rain and thunderstorms. During the other months there is also a reasonable chance of rainfall. However, rainfall is not as heavy as during the rainy period and the sun has more chance to allow temperatures to rise above the average of 30-32 degrees Celsius. In March and April temperatures during the afternoon may rise to 34-35 degrees Celsius which is even high for an area situated in a tropical zone.
