The climate of Bragança (Portugal)
Bragança is a city and a municipality in the most northeastern tip of Portugal in the vicinity of the border with Spain. The surroundings of the city were already inhabited during the Bronze Ages and flourished during the Middle Ages. In the 15th century Bragança was granted town privileges. The main source of income is agriculture and cattle farming, mainly sheep are held here. In the municipality of Bragança the Domus Municipalis can be found; one of the best preserved Roman buildings in Portugal. The function of this building has yet to be discovered.
Bragança has a warm maritime climate not as strongly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean as the coastal places because Bragança is located in the interior. Because of this extremes in weather may occur here sooner than in other parts of Portugal. Subzero temperatures (during the night) are not uncommon. During the summer temperatures are just below 30 degrees Celsius on average. Precipitation is quite evenly spread out over the year causing the surroundings of Bragança to be green.
