The climate of Coimbra (Portugal)
Coimbra is known as a student city. One of the oldest universities in Europe can be found here. This university was founded in 1290 in Lisbon and moved to Coimbra a few years later. Because of the many students that live here the nightlife of Coimbra can be described as exhilarating. Many small cafes and large clubs can be found here. The fado became popular here and can still be enjoyed in one of the many fado houses. Coimbra is the third largest city of Portugal after Porto and Lisbon. Coimbra has a moderate maritime climate influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. Because of this influence extremes in weather are uncommon. Temperatures below 3 degrees Celsius or above 35 degrees Celsius are uncommon. This pleasant climate makes this suitable as a holiday destination all year round.
