The climate of Saint Petersburg (Russia)
Saint Petersburg is located in the most western part of Russia in the
European part of Russia. The city is situated on the mouth of the Neva
River and on the Gulf of Finland. A large part of the 20th century the
city was named Leningrad after its then leader and the founder of
Leninism, Vladimir Ilych Lenin which in fact was an alias for Vladimir
Ilych Ulyanov. Saint Petersburg has a rich history which can be
admired when walking through its streets. However, the rich history
can best be admired in the Hermitage. The Hermitage is one of the
largest museums in the world and the largest of Russia with about 3
million pieces of art. Saint Petersburg has a wet continental climate
with cool summers and reasonably mild winters. The climate is
determined by its situation on the Gulf of Finland which is
responsible for moderate temperatures during the summer and a mild
winter. Saint Petersburg gets more than 160 cloudy days per year and
about 600 millimeters of annual precipitation. The average annual
humidity figure is 78%.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
