The climate of Tambacounda (Senegal)
Tambacounda is located southeast of central Senegal in the vicinity of the border with Gambia. Tambacounda is located in the Tambacounda region of which it also is the capital. The city is situated in the Sahel which is a belt from west to east, south of the equator. Niokolo-Koba national park can be found south of the city. This park is a Unesco preservation site and is home to about 80 different mammal species. Tambacounda has a tropical savannah climate with one distinct rainy period from June till October. During this rainy period humidity figures are high. During spring temperatures are highest. During this period it is hot here with an average of 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) and peaks up to 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit). During the dry period a Harmattan wind may blow. This type of wind supplies dry and dusty air from the Sahara.
