The climate of Peníscola (Spain)
Peñíscola is a small tourist city in the Castellón province in the Valencia region. The city is situated on the Costa del Azhar on the Mediterranean Sea north of the Sierra de Irta. The city is also known as the Gibraltar of Valencia. A castle dating back to the 13th century can be found here which was built by the Knights Templar. Later on it was the home of the Avignon Antipope Benedict XIII. This castle, Castello de Papa Luna is the main attraction of the city together with the arsenal and the basilica. Peñíscola has a Mediterranean climate strongly influenced by both the Mediterranean Sea and the Sierra de Irta mountain range. Because of this extremes in weather such as temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) or subzero temperatures are uncommon. Because the city is situated on the leeward side of the mountain range precipitation figures are low. Only during late fall heavy rain may occur.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
