The climate of Billings (Montana
- United States of America)
Billings is located in the southern part of Montana in Yellowstone
County. Billings is the largest city in Montana. The city was
established in 1882 with the coming of the Northern Pacific Railroad.
The city was named after the former president of this company. Because
the city rapidly flourished it was given the nickname ‘Magic City’.
When oil was found here at the beginning of the 20th century the city
flourished even more. Billings is located in the vicinity of
Yellowstone Park.
Billings has a cold steppe climate with extremely low precipitation
figures all year round. The precipitation that does fall mainly falls
in the form of snow during the winter. During the winter longer
periods with subzero temperatures (during the night) are not uncommon.
During the summer temperatures may rise above 30 degrees Celsius (86
degrees Fahrenheit).

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
