The climate of Helena (Montana - United States of America)
Helena is the capital of Montana which is a state in the northern part of the United States. The city used to be called Crabtown. However, this was soon changed into Saint Helena. The addition Saint disappeared over the years. Helena was founded when gold was found here and many gold diggers traveled here. Helena has a cold steppe climate type BSk according to the Köppen climate classification. Winters are long and cold. Snowfall is not uncommon during the winter. In total Helena gets about 1 meter of annual snow. The first snowflakes fall in October or even September. Summers are warm, during the warmest months July and August average temperatures are 28 degrees Celsius (82 degrees Fahrenheit). However, temperatures of more than 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit) have been recorded as well. Despite warm days muggy nights are uncommon. As soon as the sun sets temperatures rapidly drop, even during the summer.

The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
