The climate of Oklahoma City (Oklahoma - United States of America)
Oklahoma City  is the largest city in Oklahoma and is located in Oklahoma County. The North Canadian River flows through the city. The city was founded in 1889 when the area known as ‘The Unassigned Lands’ was opened for settlement in an event known as ‘The Land Run’. On 19 April 1995 the city got hit by a terrorist attack which claimed168 lives and in which more than 800 people were injured. On the spot of the attack a memorial can be found. The Oklahoma City Thunder who compete in the National Basketball Association have been playing their home matches in Oklahoma City since 2009.
Oklahoma City has a warm maritime climate with characteristics of a warm continental climate. During the summer temperatures may rise up to 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). Winters are short but cold. During the winter longer periods with subzero temperatures during the night are not uncommon. Oklahoma City is located in Tornado Alley, so during tornado season there is a risk of tornadoes.
