The climate of Abilene (Texas
- United States of America)
Abilene is a large city located centrally in the western part of the
state of Texas in Taylor County. The city was founded at the end of
the 19th century as a stock shipping point on the Texas and Pacific
Railway. Thanks to the fact that the Hardin-Simmons University,
Abilene Christian University and McMurry University were established
here the city grew out to its present-day size. West from the city
Dyess Air Force Base can be found. One of the biggest annual events is
the Texas Fair & Rodeo which is held in September. Abilene has a warm
maritime climate with warm to hot summers and cool winters. During the
winter longer periods with subzero temperatures (during the night) are
not uncommon. Summers are warm with temperatures rising far above 30
degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). Average annual precipitation
figures are lower here than in the more westerly located places.
Abilene is located in Tornado Alley.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
