The climate of Afghanistan
Afghanistan is a country is the southern part of Asia. Part of the
country is located on the Iranian Plateau, also known as the Iranian
Highlands. The many highlands and mountains in Afghanistan are
responsible for large differences in weather and climate; summers get
as hot as winters are cold. Apart from the high altitudes the absence
of a sea is also responsible for these large differences. There hardly
is any cooling effect during the summer and during the winter the cold
is less moderated. The south western part of Afghanistan has a
combination of a warm steppe climate and a warm desert climate. The
north eastern part has a cold steppe climate. The climate types are
Bwh, Bwk, Bsh and Bsk according to the Köppen climate classification.
