The climate of Hobart (Australia)
Hobart is the capital of the Australian island of Tasmania. Hobart is
also the largest city of the island. Hobart lies on the river Derwent
and at the foot of Mount Wellington. Hobart was originally founded as
a prison colony. Tasmania’s university is also in Hobart. The port is
often used as a starting point for arctic journeys. Hobart has its own
airport.
Hobart has a mild ocean climate. During the winter months subzero
temperatures are not uncommon. During the winter Mount Wellington’s
summits are covered in snow. Hobart has the most snow fall in
Australia. Apart from Melbourne Hobart has the least amount of hours
of sunshine in Australia. During the summer months the average
temperatures are just above 20 degrees Celsius. Temperatures of over
30 degrees Celsius are not uncommon. The highest temperature on record
is over 40 degrees Celsius. During the winter months cold air travels
from the Antarctic south.
