The climate of Launceston (Australia)
Launceston is Tasmania’s second largest city and is located in the
northern part of the island. A 15 minute walk from the centre will
take you to Cataract Gorge which is a unique nature reserve. This
reserve can be seen from the summit which can be reached by a chair
lift. Launceston is an ideal starting point to visit Ben Lomond
National Park. Here you can enjoy rock climbing and skiing weather
permitting.
Launceston has a maritime climate which is usual in this part of
Australia. Because of its location in a lower part between mountain
ranges Launceston is hardly affected by the Antarctic wind. During the
summer months on average temperatures are just below 25 degrees
Celsius on average. The summer season lasts from December to March.
Winters can be quite cold and subzero temperatures are not uncommon.
Launceston winters are renowned for their extremely foggy mornings.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
