The climate of Graz (Austria) Graz is located in the federal state of Styria/Steiermark and is
the second largest city in Austria. Graz is located at the foot of the
Alps. 6 universities can be found in Graz and about 50,000 students
inhabit the city. The old city centre has been a Unesco world heritage
site since 1999. The historic bell tower with reversed hands is well
worth visiting. Because Graz is located south east of the Alps it is
protected from cold and fierce westerly winds. The climate of Graz is
influenced by Mediterranean winds. This means Graz gets more sunshine
and less wind and rain than Vienna or Salzburg. The climate in Graz is
warmer than you would expect in a city situated at the foot of the
Alps.
