The climate of Niederösterreich (Austria)
Niederösterreich or Lower Austria is a federal state in Austria
bordering Slovenia and the Czech Republic. The federal state is
divided into 4 regions, known as viertel (quarters): the Waldviertel
in the north west, the Mostviertel in the south west, the
Industrieviertel in the south east and the Weinviertel in the north
east. The Wachau Valley, situated in the Mostviertel between the
cities of Melk and Krems is known for its scenery, culture and wine.
The capital is St. Pölten. The region is known for its mountainous
scenery where you can enjoy your winter sports holidays. During the
summer you can go hiking, mountain biking and all other kinds of
outdoor activities. The region has a continental climate with cold and
reasonably dry winters and pleasant and wet summers. Please, bear in
mind that the skiing tracks are at a higher altitude where it may be
much colder.
