The climate of Bruges (Belgium)
When you visit Bruges it feels as if you are in an open air museum.
This beautiful Hanseatic town has kept a lot of its original charm.
The many courtyards, the Belfry and the beautiful merchant houses lend
the town a fairytale atmosphere. Walking through the small streets you
are taken back to the 17th century when Bruges was the trading center
of this region. The Groeningen museum is well worth visiting; here you
can admire the paintings of the Flemish masters. You can also climb
the Belfry and have a view of the city from a great height. Because
Bruges’ climate is slightly influenced by the sea it can be visited
all year round. Even when rain falls the city offers enough
entertainment. Because of its location a visit to Bruges can be
perfectly combined with a visit to one of Zeebrugge’s beaches. Bruges
has a moderate maritime climate. Because of the warm Atlantic Gulf
Stream winds from the south and south west are less fierce here.
Winters are reasonably mild. Summers can be rather cool with
temperatures of 20 degrees Celsius on average.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
