The climate of Ostend (Belgium)
Ostend is the biggest seaside resort on the Flemish coast; situated
between De Haan and Middelkerke. Ostend is probably the biggest
tourist attraction on the Belgian coast. This is because of its
central location and the many annual cultural festivals that are held
here. The region’s rich fishing history is showcased in several
venues. The most beautiful examples are: The North Sea aquarium and
the Mercator which is a 19th century three-master. Ostend has a
moderate maritime climate with mild winters and moderate summers with
temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius on average. The westerly winds
have little influence on the climate because of the Atlantic Gulf
Stream. Sea temperatures rarely drop below 5 degrees Celsius because
of the influence of the Gulf Stream.
