The climate of Parakou (Benin)
Parakou is a large city in the eastern part of Benin in the Borgou
department. Parakou is also the capital of this department. Parakou is
situated on the most important highway of the country which connects
Cotonou to the neighbouring country of Niger. It is also the final
station of the railroad from Cotonou. In the vicinity of the city the
Plein Air de Parakou museum can be found. This museum gives a good
impression of Batanou customs and traditions. Parakou has a warm
savannah climate with one distinct rainy period from April till
October. The rest of the year hardly any rain falls. Temperatures are
around 30 degrees Celsius all year round. Night time temperatures are
20 degrees Celsius on average. From November till March a Harmattan
winds may occur. This type of wind transports dry and dusty air from
the Sahara to this part of Africa. This type of wind offers some
cooling during warm days.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
