The climate of Thimphu (Bhutan)
Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan located at an altitude of 2,300
meters. Thimphu is a relatively small and peaceful capital. Thimphu
has a China climate with dry winters and relatively warm summers.
Because of the monsoon summers are very wet. Minimum temperatures are
15 degrees Celsius on average. During the summer maximum temperatures
are about 26 degrees Celsius (July/August). However, with only 5-6
hours of sunshine per day and about 20 rainy days per month this is
the wettest period of the year. During the winter there hardly is any
rainfall and there are more hours of sunshine per day. However,
temperatures are much lower during the winter. During the night
subzero temperatures are not uncommon. During the day temperatures are
5-15 degrees Celsius on average.
