The climate of Brasilia (Brazil)
Brasilia is located in the southern part of Brazil and is the capital
of the country. Brasilia is the brainchild of the urban planner Lucio
Costa who planned the city in the 1950s commissioned by the then
president Juscelino Kubitschek. The skyline of Brasilia was designed
by Oscar Niemeyer who designed a number of buildings in the city, the
best known one is probably the cathedral of Brasilia. However, there
are many more beautiful buildings because the city is very young and
the government wanted it to have the character of a metropolis. When
planning the city they also allowed for the large amounts of traffic
the city had to cope with. Because of this there is far less
congestion than you would expect from a metropolis. Brasilia has a
tropical savannah climate according to the Köppen climate
classification. The dry season is from the end of March, or early
April till the end of September or early October. However, some
precipitation can be expected in May. Temperatures are pleasantly mild
all year round. Temperatures hardly ever drop below 5 degrees Celsius
or rise above 30 degrees Celsius. June, July and August are the driest
months and get the most hours of sunshine.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
