The climate of Xining (China)
Xining is located at a high altitude in the province of Qinghai. The
city is situated on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and is many centuries
old. The city played an important role along the Silk Route. Several
monasteries still breathe the atmosphere of this ancient civilization
such as the Kumbum monastery and the Ta’er monastery. The surroundings
of Xining are very beautiful, Lake Qinghai and the Bird Island are
well worth visiting. Xining has a cold steppe climate. Because of its
situation at a high altitude and the drought summers are very cool
compared to other parts of China. Most rain falls from May till
September. Because there are only few clouds the sun shines
exuberantly here. Xining gets more hours of annual sunshine than other
places in China.
