The climate of Pointe Noire (Congo)
Pointe Noire is located in the southern part of the Republic of Congo
on the Atlantic Ocean. The city is the most important port of the
country. In the 15th century Portuguese traders already came here to
trade goods. These traders called the rocks they saw from the water
Punta Negra( /‘Pointe Noire). Only in the 20th century did the small
fishing village develop into an important port. The need for an easy
way to transport goods from Brazzaville to the coast increased. It was
decided to construct a railway that had its terminal in Pointe Noire.
The city was redesigned and reconstructed and the railway to Pointe
Noire was a fact. However, constructing this railroad through the
tropical rainforest was not easy. Many convicts lost their lives
during the construction of this railroad. Pointe Noire has a tropical
savannah climate with a distinct dry period from July till September.
The rainy season is from November till April. Temperatures are high
all year round with a distinct rise during the rainy period. However,
an ever blowing sea breeze offers some cooling.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
