The climate of Aitutaki (Cook Islands)
Aitutaki is an atoll which consists of 17 islands and which is part of
the Cook Islands. Aitutaki was a British protectorate for several
years and was under the legislation of New Zealand for some time.
The best known island in this atoll is One Foot Island which is also
known as Tapuaetai. The most remotely post office in the world is
situated on this island. The capital of this atoll is Arutanga.
After Rarotonga Aitutaki is the most visited atoll of the Cook
Islands. Aitutaki was voted The Most Beautiful Island in the World
by Lonely Planet in 2010. Aitutaki has a tropical rainforest climate
with one distinct rainy period from October until May. During the
rest of the year about 100 millimetres of precipitation can be
recorded per month. During the rainy period there is a risk of
hurricanes. Temperatures are around 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees
Fahrenheit) all year round.
