The climate of Cienfuegos (Cuba)
Cienfuegos is located on the south coast of Cuba and is the capital of
the Cienfuegos province. Cienfuegos used to be loved by pirates and
buccaneers. Several fortresses from this period can still be found
here. Cienfuegos also is known as the “Pearl of the South”. This is
one of the most important trading ports in Cuba. It is a centre for
the trade in sugar, coffee and tobacco. Cienfuegos has several
beautiful city parks and a university. The old centre is listed as a
UNESCO world heritage site. Just like the rest of Cuba Cienfuegos has
a savannah climate. During the summer it has a rainy season with heavy
rainfall. Temperatures remain high during this period which causes
humidity figures to be high as well. The winter period is the most
popular time to visit Cienfuegos because there is less rainfall and
temperatures remain reasonably high. A pleasant sea breeze is present
all year round. During the summer months hurricanes are not uncommon.
In 2005 hurricane ‘Dennis’ passed by.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
