The climate of Holguin (Cuba)
Holguin is a city located in the eastern part of Cuba and is also the
capital of the Holguin province. Holguin is often used as a starting
point by tourists for visiting the neighbouring coastal town of
Guardalavaca. Holguin has a picturesque centre with several historic
buildings and several beautiful city parks. In the vicinity of this
town Christopher Columbus first set foot on land on 27 October 1492.
He described Holguin as “the most beautiful land human eyes have ever
seen”. The most famous attraction in Holguin is the 261 meter high
‘Loma de la Cruz Hill’. A stairway with close to 500 steps takes you
to the top where you can enjoy the view. Just like the rest of Cuba
Holguin has a savannah climate. Winters are pleasant and relatively
dry. During the summer Holguin has a rainy season. Most rainfall can
be expected during the end of summer. During this period humidity
figures may rise. Just like in the rest of Cuba during the summer
months tropical storms and hurricanes are not uncommon.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
