The climate of the Viñales Valley (Cuba)
The
Viñales Valley is situated in the western interior of Cuba. This
unique valley is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. This
beautiful valley is surrounded by green hills where you can find up to
29 different orchid species and many unique bird species. Mogotes rise
out of the landscape. Mogotes are large limestone rocks with a rounded
tower-like form surrounded by nearly flat alluvial plains. The main
source of income is agriculture and tobacco. Most Cuban cigars are
made with tobacco from this valley. This area can be recommended to
those who like peace, nature and tranquility. The Viñales Valley has
a savannah climate. Tropical plants and crops such as coffee and
tobacco thrive here. The rainy season is from June till October. Heavy
rainfall is not uncommon then. Rainfall is usually short-lived and
very heavy. Temperatures are constant all year round with higher
temperatures during the summer. The high humidity figures may make
things feel unpleasant and muggy.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
