The climate of Cyprus
Cyprus has a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and warm and dry
summers. Of all the European islands Cyprus is the warmest and
sunniest during the summer. Even in October temperatures may easily
rise above 30 degrees Celsius. The warm climate attracts many
tourists. From the second part of May till the second part of October
good beach and sunny weather can be guaranteed for almost 100%.
Climate information of places and areas in Cyprus
The climate information on this page is only brief. Specific
information about weather and climate can be found on the climate
pages per area or town. As for Cyprus the following climate
information is available:
Winter
Along the south coast the weather may still be pleasant in November
and December. However, after December winter starts. Winters are mild
but fairly wet. About 95% of all precipitation falls from November
till April. This means the weather on Cyprus is too cool and unstable
to be suitable as a winter sun destination.
Skiing on Cyprus
During the winter you can go skiing in the
Troodos mountain range
which is situated in the interior. In January and February skiing may
still be a possibility when enough snow has fallen. Do not expect
kilometers of long pistes like the ones you find in the Alps. However,
it is a nice experience to go skiing in this area of outstanding
natural beauty.
Heat
Summers on Cyprus are dry and warm. Along the coast the heat is
bearable but Nicosia may be too hot in July and August. During the
summer temperatures will be 35-40 degrees Celsius here. Besides the
pleasant sea water you can seek respite from the heat in the Troodos
mountain range. During the day differences in temperatures between the
south coast and the mountain range are 8-10 degrees Celsius. When it
is 35 degrees Celsius along the coast it will be 25-28 degrees Celsius
in the mountain range.
