The climate of Goma (Democratic Republic of the Congo)
Goma is located on the north bank of Lake Kivu and is located in the
northeastern part of the country. The city has been the battle field
of many conflicts. Because Goma is located in the vicinity of the
border with Rwanda many refugees fled to this city. During the war in
Rwanda a large refugee camp was situated here. The conditions in this
camp were very poor. In 2008 there were conflicts between different
militias again. In 2002 the city got hit by natural disasters. The
Nyiragongo volcano erupted covering large parts of the city with mud
and lava. In the vicinity of the city Virunga National Park can be
found. This is one of the places where mountain gorillas live. Goma
has a tropical monsoon climate with constant average temperatures.
Goma gets about five hours of sunshine per day. Precipitation is quite
evenly spread out over the year with a slightly drier period from June
till August.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
