The climate of Dire Dawa (Ethiopia)
Dire Dawa is a big town in the east of Ethiopia on the Dechatu
river. The town forms its own region. Dire Dawa lies at a altitude of
1700 meters. The town has the disposal of a railwaystation of its own
and is served by the Aba Tenna Dejazmach Yilma International Airport.
The town arose in the beginning of the last century because the
railway station was built here. The town lives mainly on industry
nowadays, for instance cement is produced here.
Dire Dawa has a tropical savannah climate with two short, less heavy,
rainy periods. There are very few days with precipitation here. But if
there is rain it is heavy.
In one day more than 100 millimeters of precipitation may fall here.
During such a shower the temperature here can drop considerably.
Despite the more elevated situation of the town the temperatures here
are around 30 degrees centigrade throughout the year.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
