The climate of Harar (Ethiopia)
Harar, also known as Harar Jugol, lies in the west of Ethiopia in the
region of Harari. In Harar are 99 mosques, all of them bearing one of
the beautiful names of God. Because of this Harar is one of the most
important holy cities in the world. The old centre of the town is on
the Unesco world heritage list. The region around Harar is known for
its excellent coffee. This coffee has the same name as the town. Harar
has a tropical savannah climate with two smaller rainy periods. These
rainy periods are less heavy here than in other parts of Ethiopia. Due
to the more westerly situation of the town the average temperatures
are higher here than in the places in the Ethiopian highlands. The
average day-temperature here is around 30 degrees centigrade.
