The climate of Brest (France)
Brest is a port on the south-west coast of Brittany. It is one of the
most important naval ports of France and the port is certainly worth
visiting. The rough region of Finestère where Brest is situated, is
strongly influenced by the tide and the sea breeze. It is a splendid
rough region with rock formations pounded by the waves. One would
expect that therefore it always blows hard and that there always is
much rain. However that is far beside the truth. Because of the warm
gulf stream flowing alongside Brittany the temperature is very mild
there. In the winter the average is even between 6 to 8 degrees.
Besides, compared with the north of France, Brittany has more sun
hours and much less precipitation. Real storms only occur in the
autumn and spring and really are an attraction.
