The climate of Höfn (Iceland)
Höfn is a small fishing village located in the southeastern part of
Iceland on a peninsula. Höfn is situated on the leeward side in
between two fjords. Most tourists that travel to Höfn come to see the
Skálafellsjökul glacier and lake. Höfn is also known for its annual
lobster festival which attracts many people. Höfn has a cold maritime
climate which is much milder than you would expect because of the warm
Gulf Stream that passes by. Temperatures here are slightly higher than
in the interior. However, really high temperatures are uncommon. This
region also gets slightly more precipitation than other regions in
Iceland. The average annual temperature is 4.1 degrees Celsius. Höfn
gets 1,367 millimeters of annual precipitation on average.
