The climate of Raufarhöfn (Iceland)
Raufarhöfn is a small fishing village located in the northeastern part
of Iceland at less than 10 kilometers from the Arctic Circle.
Raufarhöfn is the most northerly located village of Iceland. Because
of its situation in the vicinity of the Melrakkasletta plains the
village is very popular with the more adventurous tourist. A small
hotel can be found in the village. From Raufarhöfn you can take a
whale spotting trip by boat; if you are in luck you might spot some
whales. Because of its northerly location Raufarhöfn has a tundra
climate. This means that during the warmest month temperatures will
not exceed 10 degrees Celsius. During the coldest month it will always
be colder than -3 degrees Celsius. However, because the warm Gulf
Stream passes by Raufarhöfn the village only just meets these
criteria. Annual temperatures are 2 degrees Celsius on average.
Raufarhöfn only gets 72 millimeters of annual precipitation.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
