The climate of Varanasi (India)
Varanasi, also known as Benares, lies on the banks of the river Ganges
in the Indian federal state of Uttar Pradesh. For buddhists this is an
important holy City and for Hindus this is the holiest place in the
world. For thousands of years many pilgrims have come here to visit
the many religious festivals. Hence everything in town hinges on the
river and its holy significance. Hindus believe that bathing in the
river takes away all their sins, some come here to cremate their dead,
whereas others come to this place to die. All these religious
expressions being accessible for all to see make Varanasi a very
special spot.
Varanasi has a warm China climate. This very specific climate often
occurs in somewhat more elevated areas. The summers there are very
warm and wet and on the other hand the wintermonths are reasonably
dry. It does get colder but temperatures far below freezing-point
seldom occur. Consequently snowfall is rare here.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
