The climate of Lake Maggiore (Italy)
Lake Maggiore is the largest lake in Italy situated on the border with
Switzerland. The northern part of the lake is situated in the Alps,
the southern part forms the transitional area between the Alps and the
Po plains. Three popular islands are situated in the lake: Isola
Bella, Isola Madre and Rocco Borromeo; together these islands form the
Borromeo islands. Several well known places along the lake are:
Lucarno, Ascona, Verbania, Luino, Stresa, Cannro, Levano and Canobio.
Lake Maggiore is very popular among people who like an active holiday
because there are many possibilities for sports and games both in and
along the lake. Lake Maggiore has a Mediterranean climate with mild
winters and warm summers. During the summer temperatures of 30+
degrees Celsius can be recorded. Winters are wet; in the higher
regions snow may fall. The highest peaks along Lake Maggiore are 3,000
meters. Especially on the Swiss side of the lake heavy rain is not
uncommon and may last for a longer period of time.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
