The climate of Lecce (Italy)
Lecce is located at the bottom of the heel of the boot of Italy. The
city is situated in the interior at 11 kilometers from the Adriatic
Sea and at 23 kilometers from the Ionian Sea. The city is home to a
university: Università del Salento. The city also has a Roman
Amphitheater. Both the Basilica of Santa Croce and the cathedral are
built in Baroque style; this explains Lecce’s nickname: The Florence
of the Baroque. The most important seaside resorts in the vicinity of
Lecce are: Gallipoli, Ostuni, Porto Cesareo and Otranto. Lecce has a
Mediterranean climate with warm to hot summers and mild but relatively
wet winters. During the summer temperatures may rise up to 40 degrees
Celsius.
